Where Are You? / Teaser Tuesdays (Jan. 27)

I'm a teenage girl who followed my first love through a book and into a land of blue fairies, glass men, and fire-eaters. I thought life here would be wonderful, but I'm learning the lesson that you should be careful of what you wish for. I am so happy that my parents were able to follow me to Inkworld, but now we're not sure if we can ever return home.

MizB at Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesdays. Here's how it works: Grab your current read; let the book fall open to a random page; and share 2 “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12. For more teasers, click on through to MizB's blog.

My current book is on audio, but I thought I'd try Amazon's "look inside" feature. I hit the "surprise me" link, and this what I found:

But the hidden words said something else, something that only she could read between the lines. They said that at last the Bluejay was ready to strike the bargain she had offered him beside Cosimo's coffin. (p. 288)

—Both are from Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke

Interesting teaser! I've not heard of that book!

FleurFisher 1/27/09, 10:15 AM

That looks really good. I have only read "Dragonrider" by Cornelia Funke and I really must look out for the "Ink" series now.

Sunny 1/27/09, 10:30 AM

Very intersting. I've wondered about this series. What do you think of it?

Sandy Nawrot 1/27/09, 10:51 AM

My daughter has read the first two, and loves them. I'm thinking of picking them up myself.

Beth F 1/27/09, 11:03 AM

For all of you: The series is really worth reading. My niece told me about Inkheart when it first came out. And I'm glad I started reading the trilogy. I'm sorry that it will all be over after this book.

I just started reading The Thief Lord. Inkdeath is next. I can't wait to read your review.

Beth F 1/27/09, 11:08 AM

Nely: The Thief Lord will be my next Funke, but I probably won't get to it for a month or so.

Margot 1/27/09, 12:32 PM

Very clever to get something from the Surprise Me page. Good teasers.

"...Cosimo's coffin..."

I like the alliteration of this phrase.

I actually think I will join this today. Might as well try out something new, right...And it seems like such a fun thing. I will head over to MizB and check out if there are any "rules" other than mentioned here.

I didn't know there was a surprise me option on amazon. I'll have to remember that!

Jo-Jo 1/27/09, 4:01 PM

Very interesting...Sounds like the Bluejay can be pretty deceiving to me! My teaser is here.

Nise' 1/27/09, 4:08 PM

I've had some young people recommend this series to me. The movie review in my newspaper was not favorable.

Beth F 1/27/09, 4:13 PM

Nise: My brother and his daughter saw it last night and were disappointed. Both liked the books.

Dar 1/27/09, 8:55 PM

Good teaser. I've only read the first book. I'd really like to read the second and pick up the third.

Kim 1/27/09, 11:10 PM

Great teaser. I have heard of these books and tried to get my boys to read them but they never got beyond Thief Lord. I think they sound great!
