Thursday Tea (June 4): Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder

Thursday Tea is hosted by Anastasia at Birdbrain(ed) Book Blog. Here's how it works: Tell us what tea you are drinking (and if you like it). And then tell us what book are you reading (and if you like it). Finally, tell us if they go together.

The Tea

This week I'm drinking Adagio's Thai chai tea. "Silky sweet coconut and playful bright lemongrass highlight this seductive black tea chai blend." It's been rainy and cool here, and this chai has been perfect in the afternoons.

The Book

I'm almost done listening to Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder. Yelena and her lover, Valeck, are beginning to suspect that they may have been betrayed by one of their friends. How can they prevent a major war between two countries when neither side trusts them and others are out to assassinate them? I'll soon find out! For more on this book, see my summary from last week and don't miss my review of Snyder's Magic Study.

The Assessment

As I said last week, the Study series definitely has an Eastern feel to it. So the spices and warmth of Thai chai make the tea a good one to sip while reading about Yelana's adventures, which take her from jungle to desert and finally to the royal palace.

Let me know what you're reading this week. What drink are you--or should you--be sipping while you turn the pages?

OK. I think you've just sold me on trying this tea. I love the idea of a coconut/lemon grass blend. MMMMMMMMM.

MMMM!!! Chai with coconut AND lemongrass! Sounds delicious!

Oooh - sounds yummy!

I'm drinking English Breakfast tea, which isn't really that exciting, and reading "The Wish Maker." It actually fits kind of perfectly - it's milky tea to go with a book set in Pakistan (where they drink milky tea). I think if the tea had a bit of spice to go with it, it would be perfect.

I have heard great things about Synder's books -- I may have to break down and buy them!

That Thai tea definitely sounds delicious. I've never had a coconut-y tea before. It also feels like a good blend with your current read.

I love the idea of pairing teas with books! I'm pretty crazy about tea. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to have any yet today, but I'm about to fix that! I think I'll have some simple Chinese jasmine pearl tea. Today I've been reading parenting books (Real Food for Mother and Baby by Nina Planck and The Wonder Weeks by some Dutch people whose names I can't recall). I'm still trying to decide on my big summer fiction read...

Your post is almost making me want to drink tea - and that is a great achievement because i am that rare thing an Englishwoman who hates the staff!

Your book sounds like it is full of intrigue. I haven't been drinking much tea lately. I have switched to lemonade. We'll see if that lasts the summer. I have book overwhelment from BEA! Don't you just love my word creations! But i am working my way through The Turnaround when I should probably be reading something else, but h well.

Thanks for the comment on the carnival. I'm glad you like the idea and are going to take part. :)

Spread the word.

As for a drink I'm sipping while reading...? Hmm...nothing too interesting. I wish I had something from Starbucks. Mm mm
