Where Are You? / Teaser Tuesday: In the Sanctuary of Outcasts

I'm a nice-looking man with a beautiful wife and two great kids. I used to publish magazines, but now I pretend I'm an investigative reporter. It's one way to survive my year in jail. When the going got rough, I engaged in some creative financing. Now I live with my fellow convicts . . . and 130 leprosy patients.

For more Where Are You? answers, visit Raidergirl3 at An Adventure in Reading.

MizB at Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesdays. Here's how it works: Grab your current read; let the book fall open to a random page; and share 2 “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12. For more teasers, click on through to MizB's blog.

An Asian man sat at a table in the middle of the cafeteria. He stared at me as I approached. A white growth completely covered one of his eyes. Between his two digitless hands, he balanced a pork chop. His good eye followed me as I walked.

—Both from In the Sanctuary of Outcasts by Neil White

EDIT: Apparently neither Powell's nor Indiebound has the book in stock. Look for it at Amazon.

okay, so that *was* a great tease, but the book sounds kinda morose; is it?! (I don't wanna read sad books! LoL)

Hope you're enjoying it, in any case

I can pass up the fantasy (like Fire Study) but for some weird reason this book appeals to me. I like stories where people survive in situations like this.

Veens: What's so amazing about this book is that it takes place in the 1990s in Louisiana.
