Today's Read: Between Me and the River by Carrie Host

I'm forty years old, and I have just heard the words that no one ever wants to hear. I'm in a fog but I make out cancer and surgery and immediately. I have three kids; one isn't even a year old yet. MizB at Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesdays. Here's how it works: Grab your current read; let the book fall open to a random page; and share 2 “teaser” sentences from that page. For more teasers, click on through to MizB's blog.

I sit in stunned silence on the examining table as the door shuts behind [the doctor]. I get dressed and leave. I am outraged. As plain as that, I am dismissed along with my case and my apparently unimportant results from Mayo Clinic. (pp. 34-35)

Fantastic teaser, I'm completely intrigued, sounds like it may be a sad read but it's going on my wishlist.

Great teaser. I have this book in my TBR too and your teaser has made me want to pick it immediately instead of a week later :)

Great teaser! As she was dismissed, can we assume that she received some good news?

Beth ...this is a great teaser and looks like a good buck. Unfortunately, so many people I know have been touched by cancer within the last year, that I could not handle it right now...Cancer is my biggest fear :(

Andrea 9/15/09, 11:17 AM

Whoa, that is not right. I wonder what happens next. Good teaser!

Margot at Joyfully Retired 9/15/09, 11:53 AM

I'm reading this book also. Sometimes it's hard to read but a nicely written true story. I look forward to your thoughts on it.

Brenda 9/15/09, 2:55 PM

Sounds like a good book! On a side note, I am in love with your header picture!

Wow, this sounds like a book I would read, it sounds like it is filled with a lot of emotion! Great teaser.

Lisa 9/15/09, 7:46 PM

That sounds very emotional. I've lost a number of friends to cancer and it's never an easy diagnosis to hear. Thanks for posting it.

My teaser is here.

Veens 9/15/09, 8:20 PM
