I am now listening to the long-awaited An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon, the latest in her Outlander series. The audio is 46 hours long, so I may be with this book for a while or I may stop listening and read the last half in print. If you are worried about minor spoilers for the series, stop reading now and skip to the tea!Our favorite Highlander-time traveler couple are back in fine form in this novel, along with new and familiar characters. It is 1776, and the Declaration of Independence has been signed, sealed, and delivered. Red Coats are in America, and Jamie and Claire must decide which side they are going to be on and whether to stay in America or return to Scotland. As always the fantastic Davina Porter is reading the novel; I could listen to her talk forever. All in all, a heavenly experience!
The Tea. I'm drinking Adagio Tea's Ceylon sontata, which the company describes as "bright and lively, with a wonderfully delicate flavor. . . . The perfect afternoon tea." I do happen to be drinking it in the afternoon and it is perfect on these chilly fall days. As always, I drink it black only moderately strong.
The Assessment. So far in An Echo in the Bone, I've spent fall, winter, and early spring with Claire, Jamie, and gang. They are British and Scottish and they like their tea. I think they would approve, although I'm not sure they would have been able to get their hand on Ceylon tea in the backwoods of South Carolina in the eighteenth century!

ReplyDeleteI was really into this series, but I lost my way after about 3 or 4 books. They are just so long! But I enjoyed them while I was reading them.

ReplyDeleteHooray for Thursday Tea. I missed it last week. Maybe it's just become a habit but I like seeing the match between what you are listening to/reading and what you are drinking. I know what this means - I like the combination of ideas flowing in my brain and something flowing in my mouth. I think you like it too.

ReplyDeleteI made it through The Fiery Cross, and have Breath of Snow and Ashes loaded on my iPod and ready. I just totally felt worn out by the whole thing. I do intend to finish them all eventually, but have to give myself breaks in between each installment!

ReplyDeleteI tried reading Outlander a few years ago and couldn't get into it, but think I'll have to give it another try. Your tea sounds delicious, Adagio Teas are great.

this is the second or third post i've read about Diana Gabaldon in recent days. something tells me i should get out there and read this series!
ReplyDeleteas for 46 hours...wow! the two longest audiobooks i've listened to were i am charlotte simmons by tom wolfe (20 or so discs) and the hour i last believed by wally lamb, also 20+ discs. i listened to lamb on my drive down and back from florida...it was looong.
I looking forward to reading this in front of the Christmas tree over the holiday break!
