Our favorite Highlander-time traveler couple are back in fine form in this novel, along with new and familiar characters. It is 1776, and the Declaration of Independence has been signed, sealed, and delivered. Red Coats are in America, and Jamie and Claire must decide which side they are going to be on and whether to stay in America or return to Scotland. As always the fantastic Davina Porter is reading the novel; I could listen to her talk forever. All in all, a heavenly experience!
The Tea. I'm drinking Adagio Tea's Ceylon sontata, which the company describes as "bright and lively, with a wonderfully delicate flavor. . . . The perfect afternoon tea." I do happen to be drinking it in the afternoon and it is perfect on these chilly fall days. As always, I drink it black only moderately strong.
The Assessment. So far in An Echo in the Bone, I've spent fall, winter, and early spring with Claire, Jamie, and gang. They are British and Scottish and they like their tea. I think they would approve, although I'm not sure they would have been able to get their hand on Ceylon tea in the backwoods of South Carolina in the eighteenth century!
What's on your reading list this week? Do you have any suggestions for historical fiction that takes place during the American revolution?

Thursday Tea is hosted by Anastasia at Birdbrain(ed) Book Blog. Here's how it works: Tell us what tea you are drinking (and if you like it). And then tell us what book are you reading (and if you like it). Finally, tell us if they go together.

Hope you're enjoying it! When you are finished, we should discuss it.
ReplyDeleteI was really into this series, but I lost my way after about 3 or 4 books. They are just so long! But I enjoyed them while I was reading them.
ReplyDeleteI have the first few books in this series, but I haven't gotten around to reading them yet. Some day...
ReplyDeleteHooray for Thursday Tea. I missed it last week. Maybe it's just become a habit but I like seeing the match between what you are listening to/reading and what you are drinking. I know what this means - I like the combination of ideas flowing in my brain and something flowing in my mouth. I think you like it too.
ReplyDelete46 hours! I'm not sure my attention span is long enough for that.
ReplyDeleteI made it through The Fiery Cross, and have Breath of Snow and Ashes loaded on my iPod and ready. I just totally felt worn out by the whole thing. I do intend to finish them all eventually, but have to give myself breaks in between each installment!
ReplyDeleteI so want to read this book, but want to finish listening to the series thus far first! It is such a dilema! LOL
ReplyDeleteWowser- 46 hours! That could take a while. lol. I still have to catch up on the rest of the series but I'll be picking this one up for my shelf soon anyhow.
ReplyDeleteI tried reading Outlander a few years ago and couldn't get into it, but think I'll have to give it another try. Your tea sounds delicious, Adagio Teas are great.
ReplyDelete46 hours is a HUGE audio undertaking! I think the length of that would scare me off.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these - do you need to start with the first book, or can you pick up anywhere (I'd likely start with the shortest book!)
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things about this book! Glad you're enjoying it!
ReplyDelete46 hours.. oh MY!
ReplyDeleteThat's like... God! to much :)
That tea smells nice :)
I will surely someday get this book for me! and nO, no suggestions for the book you want :)
I really enjoyed the book and love the series. I spent a few days reading but I don't know if I could spend 46 hours listening! Can't wait to read your review.

I should have got the audio, I bought the book but can hardly lift it! So I haven't started yet.
ReplyDeleteYou really need to have milk in that tea for the British to approve :)
this is the second or third post i've read about Diana Gabaldon in recent days. something tells me i should get out there and read this series!
ReplyDeleteas for 46 hours...wow! the two longest audiobooks i've listened to were i am charlotte simmons by tom wolfe (20 or so discs) and the hour i last believed by wally lamb, also 20+ discs. i listened to lamb on my drive down and back from florida...it was looong.
I looking forward to reading this in front of the Christmas tree over the holiday break!
ReplyDeleteSo many people rave about this series so I suspect I shall have to try it out at some point so I skipped reading once you said about spoilers but 46 hours! YIKES.
ReplyDeleteI have got tot catch up with this series!

ReplyDeleteI have to get the first book in the series. Intrigued, except I'm not big on first person pov. Please tell me Gabaldon does it well.
ReplyDeleteCeylon Sonata sounds delish. I just tried Snapples Cold Earl Grey and it was quite good.
