"Always remember," [Da would] say to her, "when you're telling a really good story, there's no law to stop you making things up. If you've got their attention, they're not going to be thinking about whether you actually know what one of your characters was feeling and thinking inside. They'll believe you do if you say it convincingly. You're spinning them a dream, and we all do love good dreams, so." (p. 24)—From An Irish Country Girl by Patrick Taylor (Source: Review copy, see review policy).

Very interesting teaser on writing. Are you liking the book thus far?
ReplyDelete"There's no law to stop you making things up." -- Love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat teaser
Except if the story goes on forever, the listeners are bored to tears. I rally liked this book from page 106. The first 105 made my eyes glaze over.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and happy reading! Here's my teaser
True, true. That's what good writing is all about.
ReplyDeleteMy teaser
I love it! This is definitely one review I'm looking forward to!
ReplyDeleteI listened to the first three in the series, and then (thrill of thrills!) the publisher offered me the last one, plus all four to offer as a giveaway! I love the books so much, I went out and bought the first three so I could read them again and again.
ReplyDeleteI love that line--you're spinning a dream. I think I would really like this book. great teaser.
ReplyDeleteKaye-the road goes ever ever on
Great quotation.
ReplyDelete"Making up things" sounds so deceptively simple :D
I love a good storyteller - I have a southern family full of them. I wish I had inherited that natural ability. It is so enchanting - the character is right, no one stops to think if what you say is valid or not, as long as it is interesting!
ReplyDeleteYes, we all do love good dreams! thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteI love this teaser! Really need to read these books...
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty good advice. Making things up is what good storytelling is all about, isn't it? Of course, some writers are better at "spinning dreams" than others. What a great teaser!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting teaser! I like the idea of spinning a dream.
ReplyDeleteit is very true :0)
ReplyDeleteI like that teaser. It's great advice for telling a tale.
ReplyDeleteThat's true!
ReplyDeleteOf course, it is a fact that the Irish are great story tellers!
ReplyDeleteI have several of the books in this series, all unread, I am ashamed to say.
What a fabulous teaser! Love it.
