Thankfully Reading Weekend: Getting Started

The first round of turkey and pie is over and now it's time to settle in for a long reading weekend. No fighting crowds at the stores for me; instead, I intend to read and perhaps take a few walks (with an audiobook) and maybe make some lace.

So what's up in terms of reading plans for Thankfully Reading Weekend? I'm not sure. I haven't made a list, but here are some books I'm thinking about, in no particular order. I'll be lucky to get three books finished.

I have a good mix of graphic, nonfiction, YA, historic, and contemporary. Like I said, I don't plan on reading nine books in three days, nor am I restricting myself to just the books shown here. Thankfully Reading Weekend is all about no stress and no rules!

And in the no-rules, spirit, remember, if you are going read this weekend -- even for just an hour, even just 20 pages -- you are welcome to join in the fun. Check out Jenn's Bookshelves for more information.

  1. That's quite the eclectic selection. I'm about to go stand in front of the bookcases and have that what to read next conversation with myself.

  2. I had high hopes for my reading plans his weekend but now that I am at my parents for the weekend I am remembering how hard it is to get reading done - Ha!

Will sneak off shortly with a book! You have a nice varied selection there - look forward to seeing what you read!

  3. Today I shall be cleaning my house in a spirited manner, attempting to work off some of that hedonism I indulged in yesterday. I had to get up from my friends' table and lay horizontal I was in so much pain yesterday! Good luck with the reading. It is not in the cards for me I don't think. I did want to mention that I just finished an audio called Cane River, and the narrator was wonderful, and I noticed that she also narrates Cleopatra...

  4. I started Cleopatra last night but found it slow going with all the activity around here. I think it's going to be good, but it's going to require no distractions, at least at the beginning.

  5. Thanks for the reminder to add Exley to my wish list - I remember reading the blurb for the audiobook and thinking that it sounded really interesting. Enjoy!

  8. I like your list! It's got something of everything. I have a stack I'll be reading this weekend, although, I'm not sure how much I'll get through. (= Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!

  9. After I get the house put back in order from yesterday's Thanksgiving feast I'm going to settle down with one of the several books I have chosen. Hopefully I can get at least one finished this weekend!

  13. I want to read Exley soon. I loved An Aronist's Guide to Writer's Homes in New England

  14. Even though you didn't read as much as you had hoped to, I hope you had fun with this. Hosting the weekend encouraged/allowed others to dedicate their time to reading.

In 2011 I will be Thankfully Reading over this holiday weekend -- I'm determined to give the time to myself :)
