His smile was gentle. "You listen to too many of Old Nan's stories. The Others are as dead as the children of the forest, gone eight thousand years. Maester Luwin will tell you they never lived at all. No living man has ever seen one."—From A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin (Bantam edition, 2002)
"Until this morning, no living man had ever seen a direwolf, either" Catelyn reminded him. (p. 25)

ReplyDeleteI agree with you--"Poor thing!" I would hate to be in an arranged marriage, esp. when I was in love with someone else...
This teaser of yours makes me want to read A Game of Thrones even more than I already do. *squirms* I've made the painstaking decision, however, to wait until an announcement of book 7 comes out. It took Martin 6 years to write the book coming out this July and there are still two more. I don't want the series to turn into a Robert Jordan scenario (though at least someone is continuing that...). Plus, with the books hovering at 1000 pages and such a large cast of characters, I know I'd have to re-read each time I needed to refresh my memory for reading the new book. Oh, but I so want to read...!
