Today's Read: Shadow Tag by Louise Erdrich

MizB at Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesdays. Here's how it works: Grab your current read; let the book fall open to a random page; and share 2 “teaser” sentences from that page. For more teasers, click on through to MizB's blog.

I have been taught to think that life proceeds inevitably from its formative starting point and that its course is difficult to change. If it's the same with love, then there were bad omens from the beginning: the night before our wedding I dreamed that I was savagely attacked and pulled apart by wild dogs. . . . You are an unlucky thirteen years older than me. But here is the most telling thing: you wish to possess me. And my mistake: I loved you and let you think you could. p. 18

I can't help feeling there's a broken marriage here. Very sad.

Here's my teaser. Rather an unusual one as it's Fanny Hill.

Now that's definitely a curious tease! I picked this book from the library last week and really can't wait to start it!

Wonderful teaser! I love the language. I have two this week. My YA teaser is from The False Princess by Eilis O'Neal and my adult teaser is from Game for Anything by Bella Andre. Happy reading!

This is not a book I am familiar with, but I love those teaser lines.

I just had to check out the full synopsis and that in itself was so emotionally charged, that I can only imagine how disturbing a read the whole book is.

It got some fairly mixed reviews and overall came out as a middle-of-the-road book, so I look forward to hearing your thoughts about it.

Definitely one for my 'wish list', whatever.

Sad and yet an interesting interpretation of hindsight being 20/20.

THAT is a powerful excerpt. And wonderfully intriguing. Nice pick!

A stunning, eerie teaser. It also gives me a little insight into this book which I'd very much like to read, especially now!

Ever since I saw Louise Erdrich on a PBS show about her ancestors, I've had her on my list of authors to read. Now I know which book to read.

Doesn't sound like marital bliss by a long shot. This is a bad omen.

Ah, Louise Erdrich! Is this one of your Indiespensables packages?

I went thru a stage (20 yrs ago) when I read everything I could get my hands on by Louise Erdrich (and Michael Dorris).

thanks for the reminder that I need to pluck this off my shelf and read it!
