I get just about as much time as I want. If I weren't working full time at a job that involves careful reading all day, I would likely use some of that freed-up time to read for pleasure. Because I listen to audiobooks while doing household chores and walking, I am able to capture what would have been lost reading hours.
2. If you had (magically) more time to read–what would you read? Something educational? Classic? Comfort Reading? Escapism? Magazines?
I have eclectic tastes, so I wouldn't stick to any one genre or format.
No one has enough reading time, and we all could use more to read what we like. Happy BTT!
ReplyDeleteMy tastes are pretty eclectic, too. But I do read more fiction than non-fiction these days. The audiobooks while doing household chores sound like a good idea - I need to try that.

ReplyDeleteI wish I had time for audio books - I live 5 mins. from work so I don't get traffic or anything like that. Half the time I'm so out of it that by the time I reach work I didn't even realize that there was a Dora DVD playing instead of a radio station. - bleh

I've listened to a few books while walking my dog, and that's a great way to get extra time in. Glad to know I'm not the only one who seems satisfied with her reading time!
ReplyDeleteI am trying to work more audiobooks in to "capture lost reading hours" but it's difficult for me as I lose focus while listening.

ReplyDeleteI wish I could get into audiobooks more. I tend to either fall asleep or daydream instead of listening. I usually get audiobooks I've already read like The Graveyard Book.
ReplyDeleteI find I have difficulty concentrating on audio books while doing housework. Maybe the more I do it, the easier it will get?
ReplyDeleteI would definitely like more time to read. But I also think it goes up and down. Sometime I read a lot and other times not so much, but it normally has nothing to do with how busy I am outside reading.
ReplyDeleteFor those who asked: yes audiobooks get easier to listen to. I started with mysteries and YA. Literary fiction and history aren't as easy on audio -- because of the need to stop to savor and think -- but many genres work great on audio.
ReplyDeleteThe Guernsey book was even better on audio (I read and then listened). I'm told the HP books are awesome on audio too. I plan to try the first one on audio in 2009.
The HP books are great in/on audio. I listened to the first 2 with my oldest about 6 years ago (when she was 8 or 9 years old). Jim Dale does a wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteI tried to listen to audiobooks while working but that was a total failure. I actually started typing words from the audiobooks!

I think I read as much as I want to, most of the time. Too much and it does not become much of an escape or break. I am also pretty eclectic so if I did have all the time in the world to read, I would just keep reading like I do now.

I have recently started listening to audio books during my morning commute.
ReplyDeleteI usually read two hours over breakfast every morning, taking my time and sitting at the sunniest spot at my neighborhood coffee shop. (It's San Francisco...everyone has their coffee at the cafes). Then I'll slip in some reading time when no students come for office hour. I'll read a bit more at home in the evening since I don't watch much TV.
I should really try audiobooks. I could read and clean then.
ReplyDeleteI've never gotten used to audio books. I would probably if I used it more often - but I much prefer the physical aspects of reading and reading on my own.
ReplyDeleteUp to this point, audio books and I just aren't a good fit. Reading, writing, photography, crafts--I tend to be a very visual person.

It would be impossible to stick to any one genre. I can't imagine committing myself to just one genre for an extended length of time. I need variety.
ReplyDeleteI'm an audio book fan too. I'm just about to start up my audible account again (the weather is warming up here which makes walking to work an option - exercise and reading all in one). I tend to listen to different things than I read on paper. If I'm reading crime fiction then I listen to historical fiction - that way I don't get confused.
ReplyDeleteI guess we all deserve to have the times to read. I wish I could listen to the audiobooks while doing chores, but with my hearing impaired - it difficult :)
