Where Are You? / Teaser Tuesday (May 26)

I'm in Cape Cod. I've been here for about century, and I've seen it all. I love the busy summers when the family races out my doors and comes back in dusting me with sand. The winters can be lonely because I'm usually shut down tight, providing shelter to the mice. I'm worried because the fourth generation may decide to let me go. I've barely gotten to know the babies.

MizB at Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesdays. Here's how it works: Grab your current read; let the book fall open to a random page; and share 2 “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12. For more teasers, click on through to MizB's blog.

For hours, we saw the grown-ups only in passing: my parents and aunts en route to a tennis match; Grandma tending her foxgloves; Grandpa trudging from the woods to the lower hall closet for a set of loppers, a Rorschach blot of sweat expanding from the collar of his khaki work shirt. (p. 36)

Beautiful quote. Very nostalgic.

I have only read a couple of pages of Hunger Games and so far it has been good. I have not heard on bad review on it yet.

You always pick good ones, Beth! I've four books going right now...two for the kids and two for me. So I am all over the place! If I could only finish one, then I'd be happy!

I'm guessing this is narrated by the house? Very interesting.

Beth F 5/26/09, 9:49 AM

Margot: It's not narrated by the house but the house is the focus, so I thought it'd be fun to write it up from the house's point of view.

I love how you wrote about this from the house's point of view. :-) It sounds like an interesting book.

A story from the point of view of the house? Very novel!

I'll be finishing this book tonight. I love how you did the "where are you?" from the house's point of view!

Now I do like the sound of that. Nice post!

Okay, I see from your comments that it's not the house talking, but that sounded so interesting! This looks good. Looking forward to your review.

I'm pretty sure I have this on my list. Your post is getting me in the mood to "head down the Cape" as they say here in Boston. Although after watching horrendous Cape traffic from the holiday weekend I'll need to time it well.

I read this one a couple of summers ago and really enjoyed it. We're thinking of spending part of this summer in Cape Cod, so it might be time to give it a quick reread. Thanks for the teaser!

That's a great passage you wrote for the 'where are you?'.
