Challenge: R.I.P. IV

Carl from Stainless Steel Droppings is hosting the R.I.P IV Challenge. That R.I.P. stands for Readers Imbibing Peril. And although I swore I wasn't joining, here I am.

There are several levels, and I am committing to reading two books in two months. The idea is to read books out of the following categories: mystery, suspense, thriller, dark fantasy, Gothic, horror, and supernatural. Although we are not required to compile and stick with a reading list, I thought I'd share some of the books I've been wanting to read:

The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris
Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger
The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson
The Vampire Diaries by L. J. Smith
The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe
The Widow's Season by Laura Brodie
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr

Surely I can read two books for this challenge by October 31. Some people have already started on the challenge, and you can find the links to their reviews at the R.I.P. IV Review Site.

  1. It truly does sound like a wonderful challenge, and I am giving into temptation and signing up myself.

Your list of potential reads is terrific!

  3. I knew you were thinking about this one. I didn't know there were different levels - I may think about it, since I think I could read 2 books in 2 months.

  5. I'm avoiding this one because I don't like "those" kind of books. And then I look at your list and see the Physick Book. That book is one of my favorites from this year! I've learned something new about myself. (I'm still not joining the challenge.)

  6. Oh ..... I really shouldn´t ....
    Well, perhaps but ...

Actually, I have my first idea ready, and seeing your list I wonder whether I should use Stieg Larsson´s third novel as a second choice. (If you can use him, so can I).

No, I haven´t really made up my mind. But my, I am tempted (and I like the button soooo much).

  8. I'm in this challenge too (but I am going to to try and tackle 4 books, we'll see ...) We also share some of the same books in our pool, I am hoping to read P&P&Zombies and The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane.
Here is my first post and list.
    Happy Reading

  10. Great list of books. I've only read The Girl Who Played With Fire (and it was a good read) and I am NOT joining this challenge ;o) I have enough trouble keeping up with the other challenges I sign up for :-)

  11. Carl might like to think R.I.P stands for Readers Imbibing Peril, but really we all know is stands for Resistance Is Pointless! :)

Sounds like a great pile of books you've got lined up for it.

  12. Here's a challenge that I might be able to do! Only two books and I have books that I will be reading anyway that will fulfill the requirements. YAY! Need more challenges like this one. (I stink at challenges).

    :)

  13. It will be interesting to see what everyone reads for this one. Your list is making me drool a bit. The only one I've had a chance to read from your list is Definitely Dead, but there are many others I'd like to read eventually. Enjoy!

I've actually been thinking of dropping out of most of my challenges for this year. I haven't quite decided for sure on that yet.

  21. I really, really need to get off the fence and join this challenge. Do you think I can count The Girl Who Played with Fire and Her Fearful Symmetry even though I started them before Sept 1?
