Thanks to Violet from Violet Crush for recommending the movie Bride & Prejudice. I had omitted it from my Pride & Prejudice Goes to the Movies post, and that's because I had never seen it.This musical, yep it's basically a musical, is simply delightful. Bollywood director Gurinder Chadhadid and writer Paul Mayeda Berges did a fabulous job modernizing Austen's classic story and moving it to India and Los Angeles. The characters and dialogue are familiar, but the fun factor has been set to high. If you are a fan of Pride & Prejudice, you really shouldn't miss this movie. Oh, and in case you're wondering, the movie, except for few songs, is in English. Here's a peek:
The Assessment. I sincerely doubt the Bakshi family is drinking decaf vanilla tea, but if they tried it, they might not be totally turned off. It's possible that Darcy's family might indulge, but it's probably not quite high class enough.

ReplyDeleteI saw Bride & Prejudice at the cinema when it was first released and really enjoyed it. I loved the rich, lush colours and the antithetical setting. I must re-watch it at some point.
ReplyDeleteI am drinking a mug of hot everyday tea as I am very, very cold and it is warming my hands!
I heard so much about this movie, but never caught up with it. It is funny that the main actors are off the radar, even after the movie got all that hype. As far as movies are concerned, we have been watching that 6-ish hour mini series called Jesus of Nazareth that was made in the 70's. It had been awhile since we'd seen it, and we wanted to show it to the kids. It is fabulous!

ReplyDeleteI liked this movie though not a 5 star rating kind. It was fun to watch. There are some good Indian movies with much better substance in English.
ReplyDeleteThis movie was the end of a very funny movie marathon a couple friends and I had a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteThe first movie we watched was Little Manhattan. Cute little love story about kids...no kissing, obviously.
The second was High School Musical (before it was a craze and we'd never heard of it). Again, innocent Disney romance that strategically pans the camera away when the characters should kiss. At this point there was a very obvious lack of kissing in our romantic comedy movie fest.
Then we watched Bride & Prejudice. We thought for sure there would be a kiss, but THERE WASN'T! Finally, FINALLY a kiss came at the end in the blooper reel during the credits when two members of the crew run through the fountain and jokingly embrace.
SUCCESS!
I've seen this movie and enjoyed it. It's a fun entertaining retelling of Austen's story. :)
