Today's Read: The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown

MizB at Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesdays. Here's how it works: Grab your current read; let the book fall open to a random page; and share 2 “teaser” sentences from that page. For more teasers, click on through to MizB's blog.

Today's teaser comes from an upcoming Amy Einhorn book I'm dying to share with you. Look for my review just after the new year, when the book is released:
It's unlikely that our parents ever looked up any of our names in one of those baby name books. The Riverside Shakespeare had obviously been the repository of choice. Once Rose had a summer camp counselor who, as an icebreaker, looked up the meanings of all the children's names, and Rosalind was horrified to learn her name means, yes, "beautiful rose," but also "horse serpent." Horse serpent? If that won't give a girl body image issues for life, we don't know what will. (p. 58)

  6. Hi Beth,

I managed to track down the full synopsis for this book, as your teaser lines were so intriguing.

It looks set to be a great read, I like the whole concept of family sagas and relationships. Are there many real life families out there, that lead such complicated lives, I wonder???

  14. I often wonder what parents were thinking when they named their children. Too many parents forget kids will be saddled with theies name - and all the horrible nicknames that can be associated with it - all their lives. Or at least until they are old enough to legally have it changed, lol. Great teaser!

  18. Here is my teaser from Out of Touch by Brandon Tietz (Page vii):

I used to be the kind of guy that would have no problem reading Playboy or Hustler on an airplane, but that me in "the before," and nearly everything has changed since that time in my life a little over a year ago.

This is not a coming of age story.

If that's what you're wanting then I suggest you put this down and read something else: something with a happy ending. Like Penthouse.

    Or: the funny pages.

This is me giving you your official warning.

Because where this goes, you might not be ready for.
