Today's Read: The Bird House by Kelly Simmons

MizB at Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesdays. Here's how it works: Grab your current read; let the book fall open to a random page; and share 2 "teaser" sentences from that page. For more teasers, click on through to MizB's blog.
All we did, after all, was pay attention. You should try it sometime. Watch a woman's face as she fingers her antique locket. Hear the jangle of charm bracelets covering up an ancestor's cries. Feel the ring handed down from grandmother to mother to daughter, how the gold is worn down at the back by everything they'd done while wearing it—all the games they'd played, all the people they'd touched, all the things they'd held and broken.

It's all there, in every jewelry box and trunk, every photo album and yellowed postcard, every attic and basement. Just look, and you'll see what I mean. You don't have to travel to a lost city to find the artifacts of a mysterious society. Just go ask your grandmother. (p.3)

  2. That is a very insightful little teaser. And of course it is spot on. I've got a few things from my grandmothers, and they represent everything they were about.

  14. Reminds me of my mother's first wedding ring which I have in my jewelry box. It's completely worn through. I'm the end of the family line so everyone's jewelry has come to me.

  22. I adored this book. It was sassy and sweet and incredibly emotional for me. I'm not sure why it struck such a chord but it hot home for ways in which I didn't expect, especially since the primary character was nowhere near my age. Beautiful teaser. thanks for this!
