Read-a-Thon: Eat to Read Mini-Challenge

Eat to Read Mini-Challenge

Okay all you Fall Read-a-Thon readers, how are you holding up?? You've been reading for 6 hours now, and I bet you're starting to look at your snack stash. I'm not talking meals at this hour. I'm talking about food that helps you keep reading along.

So this is what I want to know. What's in your snack pile? Healthy fruit, just-baked brownies? Hot tea, ice-cold cola? Are you craving crunchy? Chocolate? Savory? A gigantic bowl of popcorn? You tell me.

Want to know what you're playing for? Sure you do. It's a homemade lace bookmark. As you can see from the photos (click to enlarge) that I'm not quite done yet. I was almost halfway when I took the photos yesterday. I hope I made good progress last night! In any case, the bookmark will be finished in no time, and I will send it out by the end of October.

All you have to do to win the bookmark is tell me what you've been snacking on or what snacks or drinks you have in store for later. Creative is always good and may just win you an extra shot at the random draw for the bookmark. [The definition of creative is totally up to me.]

Write up a quick post, put up a photo -- whatever you're in the mood to do. Then come back here and leave a link with Mr. Linky. Be sure that your link leads to your specific Eat to Read Mini-Challenge post. I'll use random.org to pick the winner.

You have until 5:00 eastern time to get your post up; I won't count links that went up after that. This is open to cheerleaders and readers alike. What happens if you don't have a blog? Write a comment here. Then fill out Mr. Linky; for the link, use the URL to this post. Your Mr. Linky number is the number I'll use for random.org.

I just ate dinner, but I had pistachios earlier!

I have cashews, popcorn, and some apples for snacks. I will probably be sneaking a bit of peanut butter onto the apple slices, though, to help fill me up. :-) Trying to stay healthy today.

What a great challenge! I'm still eating healthy, though, so it's pretty boring here.

I have stacked cashews, some leftover pizzas, cheese slices, and roasted peanuts..
I am more of a drink buff though so have everything ranging from fruit juice to the caffine diet.. :)

I'm not sure my link worked, it didn't pop up yet :-(
But I have blogged about my goodies for the next hours!

So I'm kind of cheating and using my kick off vlog since it's all about my snacks. :P

Add to that the Whataburger Taquito I ate for breakfast. Yup, no health food here!

I just ate pizza for dinner.

I'm trying to seriously cut down on snacks because my favorite snack is chocolate. I also like other candy, salty liquorice, popcorn, carrots, apples, and oranges.

I already had a post about my food up! So I linked it above. Yummmy food!

I have been snacking on homemade cranberry orange fruit roll ups. I will post the recipe on my blog at http:\\duckduckmeduck.blogspot.com. They are the best around, and I can only make them around Thanksgiving, when cranberry's are in the store. Yum!

On my snack list - Apples (good nutritious, great pick-me-up)
popcorn (easy to eat while reading),
chips and salsa (just because I like them, and i thought the spiciness will wake me up), Ice cream of course! (Because it is my favorite food next to pizza), for dinner my hubby is going to get pizza, HA! (my favorite food), for drinks orange pineapple juice (good for a healthy awakening) cappuccino (its yummy and has caffine, and of course good coffee.

I swear I do not usually eat like this, but I am eating candy corn, M&Ms, Hershey's Kisses and Hot & Spicy Cheez-Its. With coffee.

I don't feel so well.

I haven't been snacking much yet...just the occasional twizzler. But I have bananas, ice cream (Eddie's mint chocolate chip with brownie bits and chocolate bits mmm), and cookies ready to bake for later!

the bookmark is coming along great. you are so talented!

I've been munching down on a can of Viena Sausage, 2 slices of Peppridge Farm Fudge Cake, and a coupla cans Diet Dew.

Got some chips, raisins, and peanuts for later. lol

I'm not going to lie... I was almost as excited about the excuse to eat junk food all day as I was about the actual reading. ;)

With that in mind, I am *stocked*. I've got a twelve-pack of Diet Coke cooling in the fridge (well, no, we're down to ten at this point), two bags of Hershey's Kisses, a bag of chips, a box of Cheese Nips, and an apple. For health reasons, you understand.

For breakfast, I had chocolate cake, because it was sitting on my counter and why the heck not?

I'm skipping lunch (hence the Cheese Nips), and one of my friends is bringing me Taco Bell for dinner so I don't need to drag my sluglike body (atrophied from hours on the couch) off to the car in search of nourishment.

And for tomorrow, I'm having Jogging, Yoga, and Crunches. Ah, payback, you sly dog....

I have some pumpkin-white-chocolate-chip cookies that are just delicious :) Hershey Special Dark might come into play as well!

That looks beautiful!

Louise 10/24/09, 2:39 PM

Great challenge Beth. I just had my dinner - began the Read-a-Thon cheerleading only a few hours after lunch, and have only been snacking on one piece of chocolate and a diet coke until dinner. Now I am back cheerleading and will take a break later for apple pie which my better half has been preparing...he also made dinner by the way, so I have been able to concentrate fully on this wonderful event.

Meghan 10/24/09, 2:54 PM

Could not resist the lace bookmark! ;) Your stash looks yummy! Mine is not so organized, but I did write about it.

Miss Wisabus 10/24/09, 2:55 PM

I'm just going to post mine here really quick so that I can get back to reading!

So far my snacking has been some tiny quiche, some hot Tazo Passion tea, and now I'm moving on to the hard stuff--Diet Dr. Pepper.

Sheila (bookjourney) 10/24/09, 3:13 PM

I linked up.... :) It is after 2 pm here so I ready for my snack of popcorn and diet pepsi :)

kikiv68 10/24/09, 3:34 PM

Since I had gastric bypass surgery done three months ago, I have to take care of what I eat. So my snacks are: PROTEIN SHAKES!

Elsi 10/24/09, 4:11 PM

I posted in my blog, but I no longer snack because I've lost 35 pounds and I want to lose even more.

mee 10/24/09, 5:15 PM

Wow the bookmark looks so complicated. I've never seen anything like that before!

I just had toasted crumpet with sweet condensed milk and parmesan cheese for breakfast. With a cup of tea of course ;)

(Diane) Bibliophile By the Sea 10/24/09, 7:31 PM

We just ate as well. I feel better :)

Rebecca Johnson 10/26/09, 3:23 AM

Wow your lace looks beautiful - and I'm sure it will get even more lovely the further you go. Is it hard to do? I've only ever knitted lace, and I'd love to give this a go.
