Review and Giveaway: Man Gave Names to All the Animals by Bob Dylan; illustrated by Jim Arnosky

Whether you are three or seventy-three, you'll be charmed by Jim Arnosky's illustrations to Bob Dylan's song "Man Gave Names to All the Animals."

Almost every page of Man Gave Names to all the Animals contains a line or two from Dylan's song, and each is beautifully illustrated in the style you see on the cover (click to see it full size). The animals are rendered in rich colors, and their faces and poses give them individual personalities.

You and your youngsters will enjoy identifying all the animals in the book. The types of creatures that appear in the drawings are listed in the back, and because Arnosky groups species without regard to climate or continent (he explains this in the introduction), finding them is like a treasure hunt.

As a bonus, the book also includes a CD of Dylan singing "Man Gave Names to All the Animals." I don't want to mislead you, the disc contains only the one song, but the music really adds to the enjoyment of the book.

If you are a Dylan fan, you'll have to have this book just because. If there are kids in your life, you'll want to share this beautiful picture book with them.

I was so excited about this book that I asked Sterling to send me an extra copy so I could offer it as an international giveaway. Thanks to Sterling, I have a copy that was signed by the illustrator (Jim Arnosky) to share with one of you.

To learn more about Arnosky, visit his website. To learn more about Dylan -- um, just use your search engine.

To enter the giveaway, please fill out the form. A winner will be picked by a random number generator on September 20 when I turn on my computer in the morning. The giveaway is open internationally.

I personally can't resist, but of course anything signed will most definitely be ultimately donated to the Adult Literacy League auction, so it would be for a very good cause! Thank you!!!!

I have a friend who is a HUGE Dylan fan. I'll have to tell her about this book - I'm sure she'll have to have a copy.

This one looks ever so charming - and if I were to win, I could certainly find a young person to love it (when I had enjoyed it a bit myself first)
