Reviews: Wintertime Children's Books
I rarely review children's books, but I recently received two I'd like to bring to your attention because they are super stories to read with your kids on a snowy day.
Brownie Groundhog and the February Fox, by Susan Blackaby and illustrated by Carmen Segavia, is a lovely picture book to share with your little one this time of the year. Brownie Groundhog wishes winter would end and ventures out into the woods to look for signs of spring. While on her walk, Brownie meets February Fox, who is looking for his next meal, which he hopes will be the groundhog.
Brownie is too smart for Fox, though. She manages to distract him with some wintry fun before talking him into sharing her picnic. Just as they are finishing their meal, Brownie finally sees a robin redbreast. This is a cute story that shows how we can find friends and hope in the most unlikely places . . . if only we are patient enough to wait. The target audience is age 3 and up.

The other book that is just perfect to read to your youngster on 
a snowy afternoon is Soup Day, by Melissa Iwai. This adorable book tells the story of how a mother and daughter go to the grocery store to buy vegetables for soup. At home, they prepare the vegetables and put the soup on to cook. While the soup cooks, the mother and little girl play and read. When the soup is almost done, they clean up the toys and get ready to eat.
The last page of the book has a soup recipe that you and your child can make so you can do everything the characters in the book do. A fun snow day story that also includes few easy lessons in shapes and numbers.
