Welcome to day 2 of Thankfully Reading Weekend, hosted by Jenn (of Jenn's Bookshelves), me, and Jen (of Devourer of Books).
I am hoping to spend the great bulk of today reading because I wasn't very successful yesterday.
Today's mini-challenge is to share a photograph of your TBR pile or at least one bookshelf. I know some of you already posted some photos of the books you hope to read this weekend, but I'd like to see more books. You can show older books, your kids' books, or new books. You can show a boring old bookcase (like I did) or you can photograph something fun. If you want, feel free to vlog. Either way, Show Me the Books!

I'll ship internationally, so don't be shy. What book will you win? I'm not quite sure yet, but I promise it will be something good and relatively new.
I'll use a random number generator to pick one winner on Monday morning (USA). That means you have the whole weekend to photograph or videotape your books.

She asks us to
write a post about the book you are most thankful for. This could be a book released this year or twenty years ago. Your post should include why you are thankful for that book.
Here's one of many books I'm thankful for: Mrs. Mike by Benedict Freedman. It was first published in the 1940s, and I read it in the early 1960s when I was in third or fourth grade. I have never reread the book, but I still remember the story of the young Irish-American who married a Canadian Mounty and how they had to travel by sled and canoe to his posting in the wilderness.
The first round of turkey and pie is over and now it's time to settle in for a long reading weekend. No fighting crowds at the stores for me; instead, I intend to read and perhaps take a few walks (with an audiobook) and maybe make some lace.
So what's up in terms of reading plans for Thankfully Reading Weekend? I'm not sure. I haven't made a list, but here are some books I'm thinking about, in no particular order. I'll be lucky to get three books finished.
Last year a few of us decided that the best way to spend Thanksgiving weekend was to sneak in as much reading time as possible. After all, meals are mostly leftovers, the television screen is displaying football, and the rest of the country is shopping.
The 2009 Thankfully Reading Weekend was so much fun, Jenn (of Jenn's Bookshelves), Jen of Devourer of Books, and I decided to host the event again.
So what is Thankfully Reading Weekend? First let me assure you that you don't need to be from the USA to set aside a weekend to read--so don't be shy join right in.
There are no rules to the weekend and no prizes (well, except one!); we're simply hoping to devote a good amount of time to reading, and perhaps meeting some of our reading challenges and goals for 2010. We thought it'd be fun if we cheered each other on a bit.

The dates for reading heaven (aka Thankfully Reading Weekend) are Friday November 26 to Sunday November 28. On that Friday, stop by Jenn's Bookshelves where you'll find a Mr. Linky. Feel free to link as many posts as you'd like. On Sunday we'll will put up another Mr. Linky (at Jenn's) for your wrap-up post.
The idea is just to see what everyone is reading and to have fun talking about books. Read as much or as little as you want. Remember: There are no rules! You can participate in the weekend even if you have time to read only 50 pages.
One small change is that we're going to host one giveaway: It's a fun and easy meme and will be open worldwide. You'll have to come back here (Beth Fish Reads) on Friday (Nov. 26) for information.

Yesterday marked the end of the first Thankfully Reading Weekend. I was thankful to have the days off, but I didn't get quite the amount of reading in that I had hoped to. On the other hand, I had a relaxed and stress-free weekend, and that counts for a lot!
Audiobooks: I finished the remaining 7 hours of An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon and started Sweeping up Glass by Carolyn Wall. Wow, Glass has swept me up (okay, lame, I admit), and I'll be highlighting it on Thursday if I haven't finished by then.
Print books: I finished Meet the Austins by Madeleine L'Engle and The Magykal Papers by Angie Sage. I almost finished The House on Tradd Street by Karen White.
The good news is that I can put three half-read books to rest and get the reviews written this week. The bad news is that I didn't spend the hours I thought I would in reading. More good news is that I took a long walk outside on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Today starts Thankfully Reading Weekend. I don't think I'll get a lot of print reading done today because I have some cooking to do, but I do intend to have a book in my ears while I work in the kitchen. The goal is to finish up Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon.
I'm not sure how many print books I'll finish by Sunday but I have three novels at the top of my list for this weekend: The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova, The House on Tradd Street by Karen White, and Liar by Justine Larbalestier. Oh, and I'll likely get another audio going too, but I don't know which title I'll pick.
I'm learning that Twitter can be either a really, really fun way to connect with your friends or a really, really dangerous way to get hooked into new things.
Yesterday, Jenn of Jenn's Bookshelves was commenting that her family was going to have a quiet holiday, and so she was planning to get in lots of reading time--a kind of personal read-a-thon. Jen of Devourer of Books and I quickly tweeted that we thought that was a great idea. Then one of us said we should cheer each other on, another said we use a hashtag (a way to search for our tweets), and then finally Jenn said we should formalize it.
So here we are with Thankfully Reading Weekend! It will run from Friday, November 27 to Sunday, November 29, after the U.S. Thanksgiving Day. This is completely casual. No rules, no prizes, just a way to connect with others who are thankful to have a quiet weekend to read.
We will be using the Book Blog Social Club site as our connecting place. In the next day or so, I'll put up a Mr. Linky on that blog for signing up for the event. Then on November 27, I'll put up another Mr. Linky so we can keep track of our posts or reading progress. Finally, I'll put up a Mr. Linky on Sunday for linking up our wrap-up posts.
Again, there are no rules and no time commitments. If you have a moment or several hours or several days to be Thankfully Reading over that weekend, grab the button and tell us what you're reading! If you're on Twitter, try to remember to use the hashtag #thankfulreading, so we see who else is around.
